We got a sprinkling of rain last night. We heard that they got a good rain in Tamale. Maybe our turn will be next. At least we got enough rain to settle the dust. We also got enough rain that Nazo and Mr. Iddrisu were not able to paint the water proof paint in the cement gutters on the roof of the mission house. Water had pooled in the gutters. If it does not rain tonight the gutters might be dry enough to paint tomorrow.
One of the mothers of the hair lipped babies called this morning. She said that her baby was scheduled for surgery tonight. She was so appreciative for the help we were able to give. We told her that it was because of our faithful supporters that we were able to help. Her mother went to Ho with her to help out during the baby’s surgery. Her mother cannot speak a word of English but she still wanted to talk to Steve this morning and thank him for the help. Steve can only say a few greeting in Dagboni. The whole conversation was rather comical but very sweet.
Steve and Mr. Iddrisu went back to the SSNIT (social security) office this afternoon and took the receipt to the bank to see if they could get the contributions paid. They waited a long time at the bank with no success. The bank attendant told them to go away and come back later so they could try and figure out the problem. They went to the hospital and this time they were successful in meeting with the matron and the medical superintendent. Steve finally got to give them their gifts. They went back to the bank and they still could not pay the contributions so they decided to try another bank. Steve said they only waited a few minutes and the transfer went through correctly. They went back to the SSNIT office to see if they had gotten confirmation of the payment and sure enough they had. The SSNIT officer said that we could pay the contributions quarterly and we might do that so we don’t have to go back and forth to the bank so often.
A new orphan came to the Child Center. The mother of this baby came to the Center last week and seemed to be doing fine. They said that she died in her sleep at home. We found out that she had sickle cell disease and that the whole time she was pregnant she did not have any health problem. The family thought that she had been cured of the disease. Steve explained that there was no cure for the disease. No one will ever know what the cause of death was. The baby looks good and is eating well. We told the lady who is taking care of the baby that they needed to watch for signs of sickle cell disease because it is hereditary.
Thank you for all you do for us and for the work. We really appreciate the help.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
