They have shut down Kintampo Falls. Kintampo Falls is a beautiful water fall. Tourists love to visit the water fall. Years ago they built steps leading down to the water fall so it would not be so dangerous to get to the bottom. In recent years they built a rest area for visitors which included toilets and a place to get something to eat and drink. Earlier this month while a group of students were visiting the falls and swimming in the water beneath the water fall a tree fell into the water and killed 17 of the students. Several others were injured. So sad! The ambulance that was taking some of the wounded to the hospital had a wreck and the ambulance driver was killed. The traditional chief of the area closed the water fall because he said that the water fall and the forest around the water fall were sacred and the gods of the trees and the land were annoyed because some of the visitors to the water fall were mis-behaving and taking their girlfriends into the forest. The chief made a statement to the newspapers and said that the water fall would be closed until all the sacrifices and traditional rites could be performed to appease the gods.
Even though the Child Center is not officially open on Friday two caregivers still came today. One of the ladies is taking care of an orphan and the orphan ran out of formula. She usually get 2 cans of formula but Steve only gave her one because she did not bring the baby with her and we have to weigh the baby to make sure they are doing well. She is going to come back on Monday with the baby. They do not live in Yendi; they live in Sambu which is about 10 or 11 miles from Yendi.
Steve talked to both my brother Paul and Red, the driver today. They are doing fine. We need a load of sand to plaster the building at Kulkpeni. Red hauls sand but since he is not around we needed to contact someone else to haul for us. Red talked to a guy but he will not be able to haul it until Monday.
We got another little rain shower last night. The rain station says we got 8/100s of an inch of rain. Even though it was a small amount of rain we enjoyed it. I got up just to stand on the veranda and watch it sprinkle. It got down to 74 degrees last night. Can you imagine how cold the Ghanaian thought it was? Of course the high temperature today was 109 degrees so the coolness did not last very long.
It is almost time for Bible study. Take care and have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
