Saturdays back home are usually a time to either sit back and relax or catch up on the “Need to Do” list. Today was the “Need to Do” list day for us. (As I was writing this Kandie reminded me she doesn’t ever remember being able to just sit back on a Saturday here in Yendi.) Earlier in the morning Kandie did several loads of laundry so I helped haul water and hang out the clothes.
Last year while shopping in Tamale we bought two 5 gallon liquid bitumen (coal tar) waterproofing material to use on the concrete fence. We have been waiting to waterproof the lower parts of the painted concrete fence that surround the compound so everything fell into place for us to do it today. The contents of the metal cans needed to be stirred so I got my electric drill and paint stirrer to mix it up. When I popped off the lid to the opening I sprayed the coal tar on my face, glasses, and my shirt which is now ruined. Iddrisu and Nazo painted the coal tar on with brushed even though we had bought two paint rollers for them to use.
At mid morning I used our old extension ladder and cut some limbs out of a tree that over hangs the new poly tank platform. I don’t want to take any chances of a big storm blowing the limbs down on the poly tank and making a hole in it.
This afternoon we brought out a gray wooden book case from the bible house. The book case hadn’t been used in years. Kandie wanted me to hang the bookcase on the wall outside our bedroom so she can have additional storage space. The wall is made of concrete block so I had to use concrete anchors to hang it.
Later in the afternoon we went up town to buy a cell phone to give to Timothy Niligrini. Timothy’s phone is broken so it difficult to reach him. The cell phones here are quite cheaply made but it doesn’t help when the children like to play with the cell phones either. While we were shopping we bought some juice and tea glasses.
That is about it for now. Please keep us and our family in your prayers. Thanks for your support!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
