Ghana gave us a warm welcome!  I mean a really “warm” welcome.  The high temperature today was 117 degrees with a heat index of 126 degrees!  We spent the night last night in Kumasi and drove up to Yendi today.  We ran the air conditioning full blast but by the middle of the afternoon the van was no longer cool.  We left Kumasi this morning shortly after 6:00 and arrived at the mission house at 3:30 this afternoon.

We wanted to make sure that we made it to the Buipe (pronounced Boo-pay) Bridge before 2:00pm because they are reworking the underside of the bridge and they close the bridge at 2:00 each day so it will be safer for the workers.  There was a long line of empty buses waiting near the bridge.  The people are still allowed to walk across the bridge so those that need to travel to the villages on either side of the bridge take a bus to the bridge, walk across the bridge and join a bus on the other side.  It is actually a rather clever solution to a difficult problem.

Thankfully we made it to Buipe in time to cross the bridge and had an uneventful trip; which is exactly the type of trip we like to have.  We stopped several times along the way to do some hunting and gathering for produce and food items.

As we passed through Kulkpeni we stopped at Timothy, the evangelist’s house, and gave him a gallon of palm oil that we bought for him on the way.  There are villages in the rain forest that specialize in growing, harvesting and extracting oil from the palm nuts.  All the workers love the red palm oil!  They will be excited when they come to work and get their gift.  The red oil comes from the outside flesh of the nuts and the clearer oil comes from the seeds.

Nazo, the day man was here to greet us when we arrived.  Tichak, the night watchman arrived just before dark.  They were happy to see us.

Since Mother Hubbard’s cupboard was bare and I really did not have time to cook anything we decided to go into town and buy supper off the street.  We bought a whole barbecued chicken and some goat and lamb kabobs.  All in all we had a very nice meal.

Hope you have a great day!

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
