Yesterday, Timothy Niligrini and I were up in the air about which congregation we were to visit this morning. Both of us had forgotten we had scheduled a visit to the village church at Nanjuni. We were about to contact another congregation to see if we could come for a visit but shortly after talking with Timothy by phone, he called me back saying Amos, a church leader at Nanjuni, called to ask if we were still planning to come today. That settled that problem.

The village of Nanjuni is located east of Yendi about 10 miles. The building sits just off the main road going to Gnani so we didn’t have to travel any bush roads today. The congregation is one of the larger size congregations around the Yendi area. There were 58 adults and 71 children attending today. We arrived early enough that we were able to visit the chief before services. Timothy and I taught the bible class and a visiting preaching student from Tamale, Brother Paul from Jomani, was asked to preach.

My bible class lesson was one that I have been preaching concerning how our bodies are the temple of God and how we should protect it. One of my four points in the lesson dealt with fornication; how it is sinful and how it can cause harm to the body. I had finished the bible class and Timothy and I were about to take our seats when a brother stood up and asked the question “If a man is married and he is about to take a second wife, is this fornication if he sleeps with her?” My answer was “YES”! I don’t think this brother was asking for himself, but he probably knows someone this question applies to, possibly in the Church in the area. I related what the Apostle Paul told the Corinthian brethren in 1 Corinthians 7:2-3 that a man has one wife and a woman has one husband. This question arises quite frequently because polygamy is so prevalent in this society. There are even some in the Church here in the North that hold to this false teaching. Needless- to -say, this question led to other questions requiring biblical answers that cut into the sermon time but we had to go on proclaiming the truth from the Bible about this subject.

Paul, the Bible student from the Bear Valley school in Tamale, preached a lesson using the title “Where are you” in reference to God asking the question to Adam in the garden of Eden.

After services we were told the children’s class wanted to present an activity to us. As the children stood in a group one child came forward and quoted a bible verse by memory, then another, and then another. The Male class teacher wanted us to know they were trying to do their part in teaching the children God’s word. I took several videos of each child as they quoted their scriptures. We praised them for their efforts. Also, after the children were finished, we presented the church with some Cedis(money) for them to use for their church building. They were very pleased! Our thanks go out to the supporters of the work for their donations for evangelistic efforts! We were gifted with a goodly number of yams from the church which we in turn gave to Timothy.

Part of our afternoon activities included hauling 2 of the 4×4 water tanks back to the back field in preparation for starting the repair work on the wall that collapsed earlier this year. When Iddrisu tried to start the motorking, he told us a fuel line was leaking. I thought oh,well, but we were in luck. It was just a small fuel hose that had broken and I was able to buy a new one near the house and had the machine running so Iddrisu could go buy 10 bags of cement.

Late afternoon, Timothy called us to say he was in his home village of Jagrido. He said the reason was a church member’s young son was missing and he was there to help search for him. The boy left his sister on the farm to go home but he never made it home. That is not the kind of news we like to hear; especially when it is close to getting dark. About an hour or so later he called back with good news. The 5-year-old boy was found several miles away in another village area. He was lost and was walking near the Daka River and heard some fisherman talking so he followed their voices till he found them. Thank the Lord!

The electricity has been off and on about as much as a stop light this afternoon and evening so it may mean running the generator tonight. We will have to see what happens. Hope you had a good Lord’s Day! God bless.

In His service,
