We are bushed! Five o’clock was mighty early to get up but we had so much to do before the roofers arrived. We worked until almost time for evening Bible study yesterday but were too tired after service to do much more in the way of moving furniture. We have moved almost all the furniture in both the apartment and the main house and have not gone anywhere. This evening we painted the walls in our bedroom. We would have painted the office but there is still some work the mason has to do before we can paint it. Crawling up and down that scaffolding is what killed me. I was trimming the room while Steve was rolling. It looks so nice with a fresh coat of paint and a new ceiling!
Mr. Iddrisu helped sweep the floors after we had cleared away the rubble. The Ghanaian brooms have no handles so you have to bend over at your waist to use them. I dug through the stuff we had moved to the apartment and found the vacuum cleaner. I introduced Mr. Iddrisu to it. At first he thought that it was a blower. He was amazed when he found out it could suck up dust dirt and small debris. He thoroughly enjoyed using the vacuum. Normally men don’t sweep but our room looks so bad he felt compelled to do something. The roofers came around to watch him vacuum the floor.
This morning when the roofers came to work I spied a homemade hack saw. I had seen one once before but could not convince the man to sell it to me; it is made out of a piece of re-bar. The re-bar is formed to look like a regular hack saw. I asked who owned the hack saw and told him that I needed it. He grinned and said, “I need it too, for my work.” I told him I really needed it and would buy it from him. He said that he would have one made for me. That is what they always say and I knew I would not get one. I went into Steve’s tools and got his special hack saw that has a handle like a knife with the blade sticking out the end. It is wonderful for getting into tight places and cutting things off flat. I showed the roofer Steve’s hack saw. His eyes lit up and he said, “I too need that saw!” It was my turn to grin at him. I asked him if he wanted to trade saws and he said he did. We traded and I was a happy camper and so was he. When Steve came back from town I showed him his new hack saw and the roofers laughed because they thought that Steve got the raw end of that deal.
The men got the ceilings put in the room we sleep in, the sitting room, the bathroom and the half bath today. I asked them to start in the kitchen because the kitchen is bare and it would be difficult for me to cook since the stove is sitting outside on the veranda but that is not where they started. Maybe tomorrow.
A young lady came to the Center this morning with a set of triplets, 2 girls and a boy. The babies were fine, they were a month old. They were still very small so we gave them some preemie clothes and small crocheted hats.
Take care and have a great day! My brother Paul flies out tomorrow morning. Please pray that he has a safe flight.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
