We went to Tamale today! Lucky us! We needed to go to the bank. We decided that with the threat of Ebola it would be smart for us to have extra money wired to the bank so we would have some in reserve in case the Ebola spreads and borders are closed. The money is deposited in the bank in Yendi. As far as the Ebola goes right now; it is still many countries away from Ghana. The countries that have it are struggling because the villagers don’t understand that it can lay dormant in the body of a dead person for a long time. They want to bury their loved one immediately but the hospitals are not releasing the bodies for burial and some of the villagers have stormed the hospitals. It is like they are in a no-win situation. We are hopeful the Ebola will burn out before it becomes an epidemic. One of the countries that is close to the Ebola is Uganda; many people hear Uganda and think they are saying Ghana. We are still safe. We don’t anticipate any problem getting out of Ghana but if the Ebola worsens, we might have trouble getting back into Ghana after our leave. We will be leaving Ghana in less than 2 weeks so we are trying to get everything in order.
While we were in Tamale, we bought more communion juice so the churches will have a good supply. Steve is going to order more formula too. He thought that he had enough but he wants to pack down extra just in case. We also bought more cable ties. We almost used all we had when we attached the canopy to the monkey house. Steve is in desperate need of an inner tube for the old van; he checked 3 or 4 places this morning and could not find any. Gomda, the mechanic, also has a man looking for them. If worse comes to worse Steve will have to buy a new tire that is tubeless so he can have a spare. Many of the shops in Tamale were not open today because it is the second day of the Muslim holiday. Fortunately, the bank was open and we were very surprised and pleased that it was not busy.
A new fast-food restaurant has come to Tamale. It has chicken with several types of rice but they also have pizza. We decided to try the pizza for lunch. We intended to eat inside the restaurant but just as we were entering someone outside the shop set up a P.A. system and started playing the music as loud as possible. It was so loud that we had a difficult time understanding the lady who was trying to help us. The place seemed to be nice and clean and they had a public restroom which was a plus! We went upstairs to wait for our food, the air-conditioning was working but still the music was too loud. We decided to get our food to go and we ate in the van on our way back to Yendi! The pizza was good but we ordered chicken and we got some sort of canned mystery meat and some sort of sausage. Maybe the lady could not hear any better than we could because of the music and misunderstood our order or perhaps they were out of chicken and did not think we would know the difference. The crust could have cooked a little longer but we were hungry so we did not really care.
Thank you for the prayer!

The day started off terrible but it ended up great! It was terrible because first thing this morning the parents loaded up in the blue van and left me all alone! At least they left me 2 bowls of fruits and vegetables. You know I picked out all the grapes from both bowls first thing and then I picked out the pineapple. The parents thought I was going to be here all alone all day because today was the second day of the Muslim holiday but evidently Donkey did not get the message that today was a holiday so he came to work. He did not do much work once he figured out that he was here by himself and there was no one watching him.
The parents got home about 2:30 p.m. and I got my “get out of jail free card”! I helped Mom cut up apples to dehydrate; we got 3 trays of them cut up and dipped in lemon juice. The apples are for my snack bags when I am left alone for 2 months. We also peeled tangerines and froze them along with the grapes. A little monkey like me can eat a lot of food in 2 months! I prefer my food fresh and not frozen but when I am hungry, I will eat it frozen!
After we got our work done, we went out and sat in the new condo. My favorite thing to do in the new condo is to stick my hands through the wire and pick up stuff that is on the other side. The sides of my old jail cell had 2 layers of wire; the first was burglar mesh which I could crawl through because I was so tiny when I was adopted so it was covered with chicken wire and the house was on stilts so I could not reach the ground even if I wanted to.
Red is making me a new baby house to put in the top of the condo so I will have a safe place to sleep. Red was a little confused about the size of the house so Mom and Dad went to his house this afternoon to help him with the dimensions.
Can’t wait to sleep in my new house!
Love, Skeeter
