There were no Yendi Notes last night because we were just making a short one-night trip to Accra to pick up our daughter Charity, and 2 of our grandsons, Taylor and Parker. We decided to travel as light as we could. Steve just carried a backpack and I carried a very large purse. Even though we were traveling light I still took my favorite pillow! Life’s simple pleasures are the best!

We arrived in Accra yesterday morning around 12:00. We did not have much to do in Accra so we went to the Chinese restaurant and had a nice leisurely lunch. After lunch we walked down a couple blocks and around the corner to change money. We went to bed early because we knew that we had to be up early to go to the airport to meet the kids.

We got up at 5:30; we went out on the street to flag down a taxi. I was worried that it would take us a long time to find a taxi but we were in luck. We did not have to wait more than 5 minutes before an empty taxi came down the street. Once we got to the arrivals portion of the airport we snagged a couple seats on the front row. They have the doors to the airport blocked off with rails and the seats are behind the rail. We wanted to be right up front so we could see them immediately when they exited the airport.

We had to wait for about an hour for their plane to land and then about another hour for them to go though the medical screening, passport control, get their luggage, and go through customs. Their flight was on time and all of their luggage arrived with them. I guess I should say all of theirs and our luggage arrived. They brought in 7 suitcases and tubs for us and 3 suitcases for themselves. They also had 3 backpacks and 3 roller bag carry-ons.

We hired Bismark to transport us from the international airport to the domestic airport. We thought he would bring the van but instead he came in a saloon car. He said that he would make a couple trips with the small car. We loaded as much luggage as we could on the first trip. I rode with the first trip so I could stand and watch the luggage while he went back for the next load. Bismark thought he could get all the remaining luggage and 4 people in the car for the second trip but he could not. Steve ended up walking from the international airport to the domestic airport. It is really not very far away; maybe 5 or 6 blocks. Steve did not mind walking because he had not yet walked today.

The plane to Tamale did not leave until 12:00 so once we got into the domestic airport, we had enough time to eat breakfast. The selections are limited but the food was good. We had scrambled eggs with onions, bell pepper and tomatoes, toast and hotdogs that were sautéed with bell peppers and onions. We had coffee and hot chocolate too.

Our flight to Tamale was on time and uneventful. We had left the van at the airport so I went and got the van while Steve and the kids were collecting the luggage. We stopped and bought fruit when we passed through Tamale. We also stopped at KFC to get a late lunch before heading to Yendi.

We got to Yendi around 4:00. We were able to get the van unloaded and the cold stuff put in the refrigerator before it was time to head to Kulkpeni for evening Bible study. Taylor taught the lesson; he talked about the “Prodigal Son”. He did a fantastic job. Kulkpeni does not have electricity right now; they were in arrears paying their electric bill and the light company disconnected their lights. Taylor taught by flashlight.

When we got back to the mission house, we made caramel corn and we had leftover chicken and Kimchi! Rather a strange combination but good all the same!

Thank you for your continued prayers!

The Monkeyshines

The parents came home with more people than they left with! This time they brought 3 strangers to the house! I did not know what to think about the strangers; 2 of them have red hair; one of them has more hair on his face than I have on my head; and I think one of them is a giant! He was taller than Dad! I gave them the stink eye but they did not seem to be going anywhere. Mom said that the lady was my sister and the 2 guys were my nephews! How is that even possible? Mom told the lady to sit down beside her; I promptly reached over and pinched her arm! She just looked the other way. Mom said her name was Charity. Before they went to church, Charity brought me my bottle! I rejected it the first time she tried to give it to me but I really was hungry so the second time she offered it to me I drank almost all of it! Maybe we are going to be friends after all! The giant tried to feed me a banana but I was too scared to take it from him. His name is Parker! I found out the red hairy guy’s name is Taylor.

Maybe they will be gone by the time I wake up in the morning!

Love, Skeeter
