Kandie and I were up at 6:30 this morning so we could have breakfast on the table by 7:30. This morning’s breakfast consisted of French toast with chicken spam along with coffee and juice. It seems our guests were able to get some sleep last night so that is a good thing!
This morning Timothy Niligrini arrived around 8:30 and we left shortly thereafter. I decided to take the newer van because there is more room and getting three people all scrunched up in the back seat of the pickup is not fun if you can help it. As usual, we stopped in town for a few minutes so Timothy could buy some breakfast. When the five of us arrived at Bakpaba, our destination for this morning, we were greeted by some of the church members. This was the first time the Clarks had worshipped at this congregation that is located on the main road south of Yendi. Jimmy asked who was the preacher at this congregation and I explained that 95% of the congregations do not have a full-time preacher. There are men who lead the bible classes and do the preaching; the larger the assembly the more leaders the church will have. Timothy and I have the monthly church leader’s class so we can help broaden these church leaders’ knowledge so they can come back and teach it to their home congregations.
At the appropriate time I introduced Jimmy and Pam to the congregation since the church did not meet them 13 years ago on their first visit. Jim taught a lesson from Psalms chapter 84 that dealt with the attitude one should have when coming to worship. After services, several men expressed their appreciation to Jimmy for his lesson.
As a way of saying thanks for our visit the church presented us with a large number of water yams. These yams make nice chips that Kandie deep fries and we eat them with homemade salsa. There were a lot of photos taken with our guests. Everybody wanted to get in on the action! When we got back to the compound we shared the majority of the yams with Timothy.
This afternoon was spent visiting the house of a lady that sells remnants of new fabric at a reduced price. Pam and Kandie were looking for some fabric for Timothy to make a new shirt for Jimmy. A neighbor of this lady is the woman who we buy the bread for the seminar each year. Pam wanted to get some photos of her charcoal oven that she bakes her bread in.
This evening we visited the Church at Kulkpeni. Jimmy taught a lesson about Abraham. Everyone was happy to meet the Clark’s. Again, even though it was dark , there were many photos taken.
Since we got back to the house from Kulkpeni the electricity has been off 3 times. It stays off for about 5 minutes. It is off just enough to be annoying!
Hope you had a good Lord’s Day. Please keep us all in your prayers. May God bless!
In His service,
Stephen, Kandie, Pam, Jimmy, & Skeeter
