We went to the market this afternoon looking for a salt block for Timothy Niligrini’s rabbits. Timothy has a room in his house that he has given to rabbit rearing. Jack said that the rabbits had started chewing the cement off the walls of the room. The house is made of traditional mud balls that have been plastered. We think perhaps that the rabbits are needed salt and/or minerals and that is why they are eating cement. We only found one block of salt and it was way over priced. They saw 3 Americans roaming around the market looking for a salt block and thought they had hit the jack pot! We thanked them kindly and slowly walked away.
Two weeks ago a 6 month old baby was brought to the Child Center in need of assistance. The mother of the little girl had gotten a snake bite and was in the hospital. The doctor told the mother that she could not breastfeed the baby as long as she was getting the anti-snake venom medicine. We gave the caregiver food for the baby. This morning the caregiver came back and said the mother had died. So sad! We will continue to help feed the child until she is around 2 years old.
A new orphan came this morning. The father and aunt came all the way from Gushegu. Yendi is at least an hour and half away from Gushegu. Steve asked them how they knew to come all the way to Yendi to the Child Center. The father said that someone told them about the Child Center. The baby came with a prescription for the formula so we opened a can of formula and fed the baby before they left the Center.
One of the teenage girls in Kulkpeni was bitten by a snake yesterday. The family came to the mission house for assistance to help pay for the girl’s treatment. She was supposed to be discharged later today.
Divine, the evangelist stopped by for a visit this afternoon. He was not feeling well. He said he thought he had malaria and asked for malaria medicine. “Tis the season for malaria.” The mosquitoes are out in force. We don’t go out in the evening without putting on bug spray.
Take care and keep us and the work in your prayers.
In His Service,
Jack, Steve and Kandie
