Yendi Notes
We did not write Yendi Notes yesterday because we spent the night in Tamale. When we left Yendi yesterday morning we were not planning on sleeping in Tamale; but as we were walking out the door, I grabbed our medicine just in case something came up and we had to spend the night. We did not take the computer with us so we could not write them.
We found a shop that sold the water pumps just like the one we had. That pump has been a good one; we have used it for around 20 years and this is the first problem we have ever had with it. The pump brand is a Pedrollo and it is made in Italy. We were in hopes of finding the exact model that we were replacing but over the years they have changed the models. The guys at the pump shop were so surprised that the pump had been running for all those years. We found a pump that was almost the same as our old one but they did not have one in Tamale. Their main office in Accra had one. They called the main office and had it sent up on the bus. We paid for it yesterday morning and it arrived in Tamale this morning at about 8:30. When we found out that we could pick it up this morning and not have to make another trip back to Tamale we were happy to spend the night in Tamale. Besides, we had not finished shopping!
We bought the domestic plane tickets for us and for my brother Paul who will be coming on the 22nd of September. We also found a couple baby strollers to have on hand for the next mentally delayed or handicapped child that comes to the Child Center. We like to keep them on hand just in case! Of course, these were used. We also found rain coats for the night watchmen.
We were able to find a new microwave; we had to hunt long and hard to find one that had enough wattage for what we needed. We also found some vinegar; for whatever reason vinegar is hard to find in our area. I guess Ghanaians don’t use it; they like sour stuff and they ferment lots of things but I guess they are not vinegary people.
We also went to the bank this morning; the only thing that we did not get that was on our list was 2 new tires for the old van. Steve stopped by and found out the price; he will buy them next time we go to Tamale. While we were at the tire shop the owner noticed that we had a nail in the front passenger tire of the van. Our next stop was the vulcanizer’s shop. We have used this shop for years. It is easy to get to and it is on the main road going through Tamale. Steve paid the guy 3 dollars and 50 cents to take the tire off; take the wheel off the rim; remove the nail; patch the tire and put it back on the van.
We got back to the mission house around 5:00 this evening. We unloaded the van and Steve is in the process of finding a place to put all the stuff we bought.
We are thankful to be safely back in Yendi.

The Monkeyshines
I have a lot of stuff to tell you! The parents left me again but this time it was only for 2 days but let me tell you they were wearing the same clothes when they came home tonight as they were when they left yesterday morning! What! That’s nasty even by monkey standards! They did not take their toiletries with them either! Mom’s hair was a mess; she did not have a brush so she combed her hair with the fork she carries in her purse, just in case they are at church and are asked to eat at someone’s house and they do not have silverware (most Ghanaians eat with their hands). Dad told her that her hair looked fine; of course he did, what else was he going to say? I am sure it looked better when she combed it with the fork. What? Does she think she is Arial the mermaid?
They bought a new microwave! As soon as I went into the kitchen, I noticed it and I started chattering and clicking trying to warn Mom that the thing might be dangerous but she paid no attention to me! I thought that it should be removed immediately!
They brought me a gift! You don’t really want to be on the parents’ gift list! Their gifts are weird! Today I got a cat tunnel! You know one of those things that looks like a slinky that is covered with fabric but bigger. Even Dad asked Mom what she planned on doing with that thing. Mom said that she is going to hang it from my tree in my cage and I am going to crawl through it. Well, that sounds dangerous! I am not sure that I can like this idea! Besides, the tunnel is for a cat and I am not a cat! Sometimes I think she forgets I am a monkey!
The next time I peeped my head into the kitchen Mom had a huge knife and a hammer; she was hacking away on a 5-pound block of frozen Mozzarella cheese. Again, I tried to warn them about the danger and again they ignored me! Sometimes I wonder why I even try!
God takes care of babies and crazy people!
Love, Skeeter
