I was feeling particularly lazy today and decided that I did not want to cook anything for supper; actually I forgot to take anything out of the freezer to thaw so I really did not have anything to cook. We decided we will go to town after I finish writing the notes and buy some charcoal roasted guinea fowl. Today is Yendi’s big market day and there is a presidential rally in town so the guinea fowl should be fresh.

We had to get a new scale to weigh the babies on because the kilo scale we have been using is so cheap that it does not weigh very accurately especially after we put big kids on it that don’t want to be weighed and that are kicking and screaming! Zorash, the receptionist, had one at her house that a shea butter buyer in Kumasi gave her to weigh the shea butter. It is a very nice scale. We had her call the man and see if he would buy one for us in Kumasi and send it to Yendi on the bus. He agreed. We wired him the money and the scale arrived this morning. Steve had to remodel the scale because it has a flat bed on it and there is a danger that the children would roll off the scale. He took the baby holder off the old scale and attached it to the new scale. He then drilled holes in the base of the scale and screwed it to the table to keep it secure. We can’t wait to try it out tomorrow.

Jack has spent the afternoon working on the chairs for Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo. They now have foot rests. The first model of the foot rest is angled but if wedges are put in the slates the foot rest is level and can double as a table. Nazo had already gone home when Jack leveled Mr. Iddrisu’s foot rest. I am sure that when Nazo comes to work tomorrow and sees the table/foot rest Jack will have to rework Nazo’s foot rest. Tichak the night watchman told Jack that he would not sit in either of the chairs because if he sat in the chair at the mission house what would he have to sit in at home. That was his not so subtle way of saying he needed a chair of his own. Jack went to the lumber yard this afternoon and bought some more boards.

Steve spent part of the afternoon working on the monthly report. I was supposed to work with Mr. Iddrisu on the payroll but he was busy helping (mostly watching) Jack work on the chairs. I told him we would do them tomorrow.

Thank you for helping us with the work. You guys are so good to us.

In His Service,

Jack, Steve and Kandie
