We spent the morning trying to figure out which pieces and sizes of pipe we needed to plumb the well pump. Shortly before lunch we had a plan so our next step was to take the pump to Mr. Adams and have him wire it for us. Imagine, it came without being wired or any means of plugging it in. Steve wired and unwired the well pump every time we came in and out of Ghana because the switch for the pump is at the Child Center, it looks very much like one of the security light switches. One time Mr. Iddrisu was turning on the lights for Papa Zachariah because he was not coming to work. Mr. Iddrisu inadvertently turned on the well pump. We were in Tamale and Mr. Iddrisu went home. By the time we got back the lower tank was almost empty! That is a good way to burn up a well pump, not to mention the loss of the water. Since that time Steve has made it a practice to disconnect the pump before we leave. This time Steve asked Mr. Adams to wire in a switch box when he wired the pump. Now all Steve has to do is turn the switch in the little well house off when we leave. Such a good idea!
We spent the afternoon actually plumbing the pump! We finished shortly before dark. We have not had a chance to try it out and check for leaks yet. Steve wanted to make sure that the glue had plenty of time to dry!
When Donkey came to work this morning, we told him that he needed to spray the yard for weeds. He really wanted to put it off until tomorrow but the sun was shining today and it has been a couple days since it rained so we did not want to miss spraying on a pretty day. Steve asked Donkey if he had a rain coat; we like for him to use a raincoat, gloves, boots and a mask when he sprays just for his safety. He said that the zipper on his rain coat was broken and that he had broken the snaps. Steve gave him a new one; then he showed me a hole in his boots and said he needed a new pair of boots. I told him I would look for some. He said his back was paining him which is my cue to give him some medicine. I gave him a package of Diclofenac but he said that was not the one he liked the best. He had the name of the one he liked in his phone; it was Celebrex. We did not have Celebrex so we gave him the money to go and buy some. Have you ever read that book, “If You Give a Moose a Muffin” or “If You Give a Pig a Pancake”? Well, we live in the land of “If You Give a Moose a Muffin”!
We were tired tonight and I did not feel like cooking so we went to town and bought a guinea fowl and some barbecued beef. The beef was very tough! But I am not complaining because I did not have to cook!
Take care, have a great day!

The Monkeyshines
There are rumors going around that there is another monkey running loose in our neighborhood. This is not a good thing! I can’t like having some other monkey move into my territory! This morning, when the parents went for their walk, they met Mr. Oldman, our neighbor. Mr. Oldman asked Mom why she had a bandage on her arm; she said that she was covering a monkey bite. Mr. Oldman then asked if they still had the monkey. He said that they had seen a monkey running around in the neighborhood and they thought that I had gotten loose and was roaming free. Mom asked him if the monkey was big or small; he said it was small size. He said that he and the man near us that runs a hardware store tried to chase it back to the mission house because they thought it was me! I wonder if that monkey knows that I am here! I wonder if we could become friends! The same year that I was born and the parents adopted me, one of Donkey’s neighbors also got a monkey. Donkey said that it was the same color as me! He said that the neighborhood children would not leave the monkey alone so the owner put up a blind around the monkey house! I wonder if that monkey got free and that is the monkey that is running around the neighborhood.
See, there is proof that a monkey that was a pet can be turned loose in the wild and he will still survive! Not that I am advocating being set free! I’m not stupid; I know which side my bread is buttered on!
BORN TO BE A PET!
Love, Skeeter
