The pickup and van both were in the shop so we worshipped at Kulkpeni this morning. Timothy and I took the opportunity to discuss with the church the project of building another set of rooms for additional housing to be used during the seminar.
The congregation was happy when I brought them greetings from the states. The Church put up the two ceiling fans that had Rusty Johnson and Perry Martin donated last year. The room was more tolerable to stay in this morning thanks to the fans. Timothy’s old female dog was in attendance sitting at the foot of the podium.
The church members asked Timothy to teach the Bible class and I was given the assignment to preach. It would seem that everyone’s voice was crackly when they spoke because of the dust and dirt of the Harmattan. Timothy taught the lesson of the blind man Jesus healed on the Sabbath in John 9, and I taught from 2 Peter 2:1-22 about false prophets and false teachers. It didn’t dawn on me until I researched the story of Balaam in Numbers 22 which was referenced in Joshua 13:22 that he was a soothsayer. The folks here have people claiming to be soothsayers so they could relate to the story. A man in Kulkpeni died with no apparent cause. The family of the deceased man may decide to have a soothsayer tell them who caused the man’s death which will cause a problem for whoever is accused of the death. The person could run out of the village or sent to a witch camp. Matthew Unidon, one of the church leaders, prayed that the funeral would be completed peacefully.
After services two young ladies asked for a ride back to town. They are attending Senior Secondary school in Yendi. They are members at the Nakpa congregation in the Nanumba District south of Yendi.
Shortly after I arrived at the house Gomda, the mechanic, brought the old van back. He got out of the van and climbed into the pickup and took it back to his shop to fix the accelerator cable. He rolled in with the truck repaired about 6:20pm so now the vehicles are up and running.
The big generator was covered with dust, so this afternoon I took the time to blow it off and checked the oil level. It started the first time I tried it so I’m a happy camper.
It is almost time for me to leave for Kulkpeni so I will close for now. Have a good Lord’s Day!
In His service,
Stephen Taylor
