I procrastinated as long as I felt I could but broke down this morning and washed three loads of clothes. Half of the dirty clothes were items we didn’t have time to wash before we left in November. We do have a washing machine, but it is the dry season so I reused the wash and rinse water to save our poly tank supply. The rinse water will be used for flushing the commode. I still don’t believe that our clothes back in the states get that dirty even when we’re out working in the dirt.

Today’s high temperature was 110oF. It didn’t take long for those clothes to dry. As of 9:30 pm the temperature is 84oF and 15% humidity.

The children coming to the Child Center this morning had mostly catarrh (colds &runny noses).  The air wasn’t as thick today. There was a slight breeze blowing that helps to move air.  Amama phoned Zorash to tell me she would be away again today. She plans to come to work on Friday and Saturday to make it up.

Shortly after lunch I went out under the mango to ask Iddrisu if he had gotten some more bulk adult multivitamins for the Child Center.  He said he had bought some and showed me the container. When I looked at the expiration date he said it was 12-2018 but I noticed it said 12-2016 so I mentioned it to him. Iddrisu has glasses but he refuses to wear them for one reason or the other.  We made a trip back up town to the pharmacy where we traded the vitamins in for some multivitamin blister packs.  I also had a chance to greet Mr. Hayes. He is always a pleasure to deal with.

I ended up having to put the battery charger back on the old van because it didn’t want to start; the green pickup was the same way. I will jump start the truck tomorrow and drive both of them around to help charge up the batteries. The heat really does a number on car batteries over here during the dry season.

Late this afternoon I went to the freezer to pull out some frozen chicken for my supper but to my surprise it was all hamburger meat. I will have to break down and go buy a box of frozen chicken legs and thighs in the next couple of days. I was trying not to have to start the little fridge until the week Kandie is to arrive but I will not have enough room in the main fridge to hold a whole box.  It’s not like I can just run down to the neighborhood Walmart or Kroger. We’re able to buy chicken by the 10kg box from the cold store in town. The cold store’s big seller is frozen fish. These folks LOVE fish!! I’m sure you can imagine what fragrances you will smell when going to the cold store.  It reminds me of a phrase from an old peanut butter commercial advertisement they used when I was a kid growing up; “get a whiff of Jiff”.

It is almost time to go out to Kulkpeni for Bible study so I will close for the day. Thanks again for all your help and prayers.

In His service,

Stephen Taylor
