I was talking on the phone with Timothy Niligrini on Friday and he told me we would have to take a different route to the village of Wadiig today. He went on to explain that due to the heavy rain on Thursday night the river bed we have to cross after going through Kpamang and Nyangbaln now had water in it deep enough we couldn’t go through it. This meant we had to swing around Robin Hood’s barn to get to the village. I must say the roads we traveled were in very good shape for most of the way. It took us about 75 minutes to get to the village.
We arrived much earlier than expected so this is when Kandie’s mind went into high gear. Near Wadiig is the location where we shot the video of the mud fish. Kandie has been wanted to go back and get more video so we walked over to greet the chief who is a church member and ask if they could locate a fish digger for us. Some men helped us out and the plan was to go dig mud fish after church services.
The brothers were happy to have us for services. We took a church bench, bible, and other usual items as a gift for the Church which they appreciated. The religious world celebrates the Sunday before Easter as Palm Sunday; the day Christ rode into Jerusalem on the donkey. I had a lesson on the subject taken from Matthew Chapter 21. Many times church members here are questioned about why the Church doesn’t make this a special day to celebrate. With Timothy interpreting I explained how Christ wanted us to celebrate His death every Sunday by taking the Lord’s Supper per Matthew 26:26 and 1 Corinthians 11:23-26. After services we had a very good question and answering period which we enjoyed because we try to answer any questions the audience might have. We also had the audience stand outside the building so we could get a group photo of everyone.
We went back to the chief’s house to see if they had found a mud fish digger. We waited 45 minutes before we received word they had found the man. Brother Noah, a church leader at Wadiig, went with us in the pickup as we followed two other young men who were leading us to the fish digger’s location. The high temperature was 108 degrees today and the flat low land where the fish are found was radiating the heat. Kandie had her umbrella and I had my hat and a big bottle of ice water to keep us from having heat exhaustion. The fish digger did find some fish but he wasn’t as skilled in the art as the old man that had showed us how to find the fish some years ago. This was Timothy’s first time to see mud fish being dug up. We gave Timothy the fish for his family and we gave the men some money for all their hard work. The guys even dug up a Savanna Monitor Lizard that will find its way into the man’s stew pot.
It was around 3pm when we arrived back at the house. Kandie and Timothy were cutting up fabric and patterns until 4pm. At Bible study tonight I taught the account of Moses and the burning bush.
That just about wraps it up for today. We hope you have a great Lord’s Day and may God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
