Divine came to the mission house this morning and brought the chief from Kpamang with him. The chief brought a dozen guinea eggs to us as a gift in appreciation for all we have done for the village in getting the dam dug. Of course our thanks go out to our faithful supporters. Divine and the chief were flying high because the dam already has water in it; lots of water and only after one rain. The rain that we got last Thursday night Kpamang got too. Divine can swim and is not afraid of the water. He said that he waded out in the water to see how deep it was. He said that he had to walk on his tippy toes to keep his head out of the water. Divine is over 5 ft tall. That is a lot of water from one rain. He said the whole village is jubilating. The women are not only fetching water from the dam but they are also washing their clothes and spreading them out to dry in the bushes around the dam. Divine also said that the frogs have already found the dam; the fish won’t be far behind them. He said that for the first time in many months the animals have enough water to drink. He said the water was cleaner than the mud holes they have been getting their water from. This village has been out of water for many months. Divine said that most of the men do not bathe everyday because the women have to go so far to fetch water. Well, that is all a thing of the past!
The electric company’s computer system is still down. Finally today they called and told us that if we brought the money and the pre-paid card they would send someone to Tamale and get it filled over there. We know we are not the only ones that need to buy electric units. We rushed to town immediately to take them the money. They called around 5:00 this evening and they had the card filled.
Another new set of triplets came to the Child Center this morning. Only 2 of them have survived thus far. They are both girls and so small; both of them weighed 1.2 kilograms which is 2.7 pounds. We dug into our stash of preemie clothes and got them some matching outfits. We also found them matching receiving blankets and hats. Steve stressed the importance of keeping the hats on them at all times to help regulate their body temperatures. They came all the way from Sang which is about an hour away. Of course they wanted formula for the babies but we watched both of them nurse vigorously and at this point the breast milk is better for them. We invited them to come back in a week to make sure they are both gaining. They were only 5 days old.
Take care and have a great day.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
