Today was wash day again! Wash day sure does seem to roll around very quickly. Jack and Steve haul most of the water for the washing which is surely a blessing. We were fortunate that today was a hot sunny day so the clothes dried in record time. A thunder cloud rolled in this afternoon with lots of noise but it did not amount to anything. Nazo said that there was a lot of fog early this morning which means that it will either rain very early or very late. Well, if his prediction for today is going to be correct it will have to rain very late because the day is almost over.
We made several trips to town today and on the second trip we checked on the pulpits that the sign painter is working on. We like the grey and black paint better than we like the tan and black paint. They do not call grey paint grey here; they call it “ash”. Actually it makes sense because the wood ash is a light grey color.
Divine, the evangelist stopped by for a visit this afternoon. He was on his way back to Tamale to attend school. He attends weekend classes; he is trying to get his teacher’s certificate so he will be eligible to teach in the school in Kpamang. His farm is doing very well this year and he brought us a small bag of shelled peanuts. I thank him kindly for shelling the peanuts for us. I hate shelling peanuts! While he was here Steve called Timothy Niligrini and they set up a time to go to Tamale to the Registrar General’s office to pick up the papers to register the churches at Kpamang and at Kulkpeni. Steve is thinking about having Divine talk to the other church leaders and evangelists at the monthly classes to try and get them interested in registering some of the other churches.
I’m not sure if I told you or not but when we were in Tamale Jack found a cheap guitar and bought it so he could harvest the strings off the guitar. A week or so ago one of his strings broke and another one is on its way out. The cheap guitar actually came with an extra set of strings so Jack is able to play his good guitar again! Isn’t life grand?
Steve has spent part of the morning and all of the afternoon working on the new water pump. I think he will have it up and running pretty soon. He found all the parts he needed last time we were in Tamale.
I guess the guys are going to want something for supper in a little while so I had better close for now and get to cooking! Actually I have had a light day of cooking. Steve went to town and got Banku (fermented corn meal mush) with okra slime stew for Jack and me and rice with oil for himself for lunch. Jack has decided Banku and okra stew is one of his favorite Ghanaian dishes.
Take care and thanks for all you do for us and for the work.
In His Service,
Jack, Steve and Kandie
