The air conditioner man got the window air conditioner fixed. Now we can eat cool again. This little unit is in one of the bedrooms of the main house. Several years ago we turned this room into a little office, then we added a table and chairs so we could have an air conditioned place to eat. The house does not have central air. It is very nice to be able to eat and not sweat. It was hot again today with a high temperature of 110 degrees. It is 5:00 pm and the sun is going down and it is still 99 degrees with a heat index of 105 degrees.
This morning we ran into town to buy liquid soap for the hospital. Steve had not been to see the hospital staff since we came this time. We had a whole bunch of rubber gloves and other things that had been donated. Steve wanted to add some soap so that every ward would get something. As always they were happy to get the gifts.
While we were in town I remembered that it was Wednesday and that I had slated today as the day to go to the meat market and work up the beef that we will need when our visitors get here later this month. We made a detour and went to the market. We have to go to the meat market early so we beat the flies! This morning we bought 48 pounds of boneless beef. Of course the meat is just sitting there on the carcass and we have to tell them which pieces we want them to cut off. Meri and Amama helped us work up the meat. We made hamburger, cubed steak and cut cubes for stew. The cows they slaughter are always old and tough so we tenderized it too. It took us a couple hours to get it all worked up and another 1/3 hour to clean up the mess and bleach everything. It is always a job we are happy to put behind us.
This afternoon we sat for a while and visited with Mr. Iddrisu about his finances. He is always short at the end of the month. He has no idea where his money goes. He has never sat down and written down all his expenses to figure out where the money is going. We helped him make a list of his expenses. It was an eye opening experience for him. He had no idea that giving 5 children 20 pesewas (sort of like cents) a day to buy water would add up to so much at the end of the month. Hopefully he will implement some changes. He was so appreciative for the help.
It is almost time for evening Bible study so I will close for now. Take care and please share the Yendi Notes with your family and friends.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
