Over the years we have bought lots of carvings, baskets and artifacts.  Today I bought a wall carving that I fell in love with at first sight!  It might just become my favorite piece.  I have never considered how they physically got Jesus’ body down from the cross until this morning.  The carving I bought is someone’s idea of how they might have gotten him down.  It could not have been easy to get him down.  Imagine what it would have involved; a grown man’s body several feet off the ground, limp, dead weight, removing nails from his hands and feet and someone to break his fall.  This rendering of the event comes complete with men on a ladder, a cloth of some sort around Jesus’ waist, and men holding his legs.  Men are hanging over the top of the cross struggling with the body so it does not fall.  Wouldn’t it be disgraceful to let him fall on the ground?  Women are standing at the foot of the cross watching the procedure.  The carving grabbed at my heart strings.  I actually had to walk away a couple times before I got it for a price I could afford!  Even though I loved the carving I still would not pay the carver’s first price!  The carving will not fit into any of our tubs or suitcases; Steve will have to make a special box for it when we take it back to the states.  We will wrap it in plastic for the short flight up to Yendi tomorrow and hope that it does not get damaged on the way.

We left the hotel this morning at 7:00 and returned this afternoon around 3:00.  We missed almost all the traffic on the way out of Accra this morning.  This afternoon we got into some traffic but the driver knew how to detour around part of it.  All in all it was a good day and the weather was cooler today.  In fact on the ride up to Koforidua the driver did not turn on the air conditioning.  We did not even think the vehicle had air conditioning and were pleasantly surprised when he turned it on later this afternoon.

We walked down to the Chinese restaurant for supper a little while ago.  The restaurant is a few blocks away from the hotel as always the food was wonderful and we ate too much.

Take care and please continue to pray for us and for our trip up to Tamale and then on to Yendi tomorrow.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
