We are safely back in Ghana. We have not made it to Yendi yet but we are well on our way. We arrived this morning at 8:30 Ghana time that would be 3:30 am Alabama time. Naturally we are pooped and jet lagged. What is that saying? We feel like 5 miles of bad road. Well, we will change that to 5 miles of “bush” road! The plane ride over had lots of turbulence and very little sleep but we are not complaining!

Red, the part time driver could not come to Accra and pick us up this time because his father is very sick and Red was afraid to leave because he was afraid he was going to die. Steve talked to Red this afternoon and he said that gotten some additional medicine for him and that he had rallied a little.

Since Red was not in Accra to pick us up, we had to hire vehicles and drivers to tote us around Accra this morning. We had so much luggage that we had to hire a van to take us to the hotel. Then we hired a taxi by the hour to take us to do the business that we needed done. It all worked out very well but it was not as nice as having a private car and a driver who already knows where everything is.

It is time to renew the Child Center’s license. We were hopeful that we had all the documents that they needed for the renewal but guess what? They needed a cover letter from the department in Tamale and we only had a cover letter from the district man in charge of the Yendi area. The lady working on the renewal was very kind and gave us an extension. I see a trip from Yendi to Accra in Steve’s future.

Red’s not being here has seriously cut into my shopping experience! But then I had an idea! Steve hates it when I have an “idea.” I asked, Bismarck, the guy that owns the van that carried all the luggage to the hotel, if we could hire him for the day to take us to Koforidua so I could go to “bead land.” We agreed upon a price and are going to make it a day trip. It takes about 3 hours to get to Koforidua and we will drive right by the carving village in Aguri. We should have time to stop at the carvers on the way back to Accra. We are going to leave the extra luggage in the hotel room. I just love it when a plan comes together. It should be a good time had by all (ALL meaning ME)! We will fly to Tamale on Friday and Red will be there to drive us to Yendi.

Thank you for all the prayers that you offered up for our safety!

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
