We finally hooked up with the lawyer and were able to pay him. We tried to meet him on Friday as we passed through Tamale but he did not get Steve’s text message in time to make arrangements with his secretary to meet us. It all worked out ok. We met the secretary this morning and picked up the receipt. The secretary messed up the first receipt so he had to come back to the office and make out a new one for us.
Red did not sleep at the hotel last night. When we overnight in Tamale he prefers to sleep at his sister’s house and keep the money for his hotel as a bonus. We don’t care one way of the other. We always give him taxi money so he can get back to the hotel in time to leave.
We got back to Yendi at 11:00 and went straight down to the Child Center to help Mr. Iddrisu and Zorash with the babies. Since Meri is off on maternity leave we hired Nazo’s wife Amina to help this week. Today she washed bottles at the Child Center. Today was actually supposed to be our “corn washing day” but since we were not here this morning to get out the tarps and buckets we had Amina wash bottles instead. We can wash the corn tomorrow. Amina said that she did not want to get paid each day; she wanted us to hold her money until the end of the week so she would get a larger amount all at once. Maybe she has something special she wants to do with the money. She has no real way of making money; she has no job. In the past she has hauled water for our building projects and sometimes she does community labor. Community labor is a way for the farmers to get their crops harvested without paying anyone for their work. Instead of money each laborer gets a portion of whatever they are harvesting. Speaking of Nazo and his wife; they have not seen their new grandchild yet. The baby was born before we went home in May. I cannot imagine.
This evening we went to town to buy supplies for the Child Center. We also stopped and bought paint and brushes to keep in the store for the men to use while we are gone. The pharmacist did not have the vitamins and supplies ready for us; he is going to have someone bring them to the mission house tomorrow. He said that he just got the shipment today and had not gotten a chance to check over the order yet.
Thank you for your love, prayers and support.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
