Yesterday Steve cut the metal flashing for the roofers, I had to do some of the cutting today because Steve had to go to the hospital to take a continuing education class to renew his Ghana nurses license. This afternoon while Dauda, the mason was here filling the hole where we removed the old air conditioner Steve and Abochi, the carpenter, were marking the metal flashing and I was cutting behind them. Dauda was amazed that I was doing “men’s work”. He said that if they were to give the work of cutting the flashing to a Dagomba woman she would not be able to cut it! Steve laughed and said, “Sister Kandie can do lots of different work! Don’t tell her she can’t do something or she will do it just to prove you wrong!”

Meri and I were the only ones in the Child Center this morning. Wednesday is usually our least busy day but the word has gotten out that we are giving away the baby hats and lots of women came today. By the end of the morning 54 babies and children had come through the Child Center. We were more than ready to lock the gate when 12:00 came! Steve came back from his class near the end of the morning and helped us finish up. He said that he enjoyed his class and will be going back next Wednesday.

Two-thirds of the roofing sheets are on the roof! We are excited about getting the roof closed in. Of course both short ends are still open and none of the ridges have been sealed so if it rains we will still have a problem. The roofers will work tomorrow then they will be off on Friday. They should get the lion’s portion finished tomorrow.

Whenever one of the roofers sees me he hollers, “Cool water! Cool water!” That is my cue to go in the house and get the guys water out of the refrigerator. We know that it is seriously hot working on that roof and we don’t mind giving them cool water to drink. The high temperature today was 116 degrees with a heat index of 134 degrees. This morning I hollered back up at him, “I know your name!” He hollers back down, “My name is Kofi.” I shout, “No, your name is Cool Water!” Everyone broke out into laughter. I figure he just got a new nick-name.

They could not find the key to the church building tonight so they pulled the benches out of one of the classrooms and we had Bible study in the dark under the night sky! It was wonderful and much cooler than it is inside the cement block building.

Keep the work in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
