Last night we got another good rain which solved the question as to whether we could visit the congregation at Sobibito this morning as planned. Timothy was able to reach one of the church leaders at Nakpachee to ask if we were welcome to come there this morning. Timothy was given the green light so that is where we went. Just before Timothy arrived at the house dark threaten clouds filled the eastern sky. It wasn’t but a few minutes before it was pouring rain again. Nakpachee is located south of Yendi about 15 miles. We waited 10 minutes for the rain to slow down before we got out of the red pickup to go into the school block where the Church meets.

After 20 minutes of raining it subsided enough that we could start services. The buildings are roofed with tin so you can just imagine how noisy it is when it rains and the ceiling has no insulation. I decided to use Luke 19:1-10 for my lesson which is the account given about Zacchaeus. As always Timothy did a good job of interpreting for me. It was a fun lesson to teach but it also has some good lessons in it. The number attending this morning was low due to the rain; twenty-five people.

After we closed the service and had the question and answer period the sun then decided to break out from the clouds so we walked over to the chief’s palace to greet him. Jack took some photos of the strange looking trees on the way to the chief’s house. In the chief’s palace Kandie asked the chief about some sticks hanging up in the room. The middle of each stick was
covered with guinea fowl feathers and blood. The chief told us the sticks belonged to soothsayers that had died. Also the right hand side of the doorpost was covered with blood and feathers from recent sacrifices. We were permitted to go into the compound where the women were spreading out lots of okra, dried ears of corn, and hot peppers for drying. Kandie bought a bowl of dried okra so Jack can have Zorash teach him how to make the slimy okra stew that he likes.

After leaving the palace we walked over to Super’s, one of the church leaders, house to greet his wife and family. His wife is expecting their fifth child next month so we gave her some money as a gift to buy items the baby needs. She was tickled to get it. From there we walked back to the truck and bid everyone goodbye.

Today is market day in Yendi. We went up to the market to buy onions and tomatoes. It also allowed Jack time to look around for stuff he might like to buy. In the early evening Gomda the mechanic called and said he finally had the green pickup ready so Kandie and I brought it back to the compound.

It won’t be long before we have to leave for Kulkpeni so I will close for now. We hope you had a good Lord’s Day and may God bless!

In His service,

Stephen and Kandie, Jack
