Last night I thought I had changed the alarm settings to 7am on my iPhone but my Ghanaian phone rang waking us up at 7:40am. It was Timothy Niligrini calling to say we might need to leave a little early because the congregation we were visiting was close to Sambu and today was their market day. I was glad he called.
Our destination this morning was the village of Jagrido; Timothy’s home village. Kandie and I stopped at Timothy’s house to pick him up because it is on the way to Jagrido. To our surprise Brother Divine from Kpamang was waiting there too. Both men went with us to Jagrido. The travel time went very fast (about 20 minutes) because we were discussing the topic the two brothers from the south had expounded upon during the mini seminar last Friday.
At Jagrido we greeted the brethren upon our arrival. Since Brother Divine was with us this morning I asked the brothers if they would allow him to preach for them. They were very much in agreement with the idea so Divine spoke with Timothy interpreting. His lesson was taken from John 15:1-11 when Christ discussed the vine and branches with his disciples. Divine’s lessons are interesting to listen to because he uses common proverbs he has heard through the years to explain his lesson points. These proverbs usually catch the attention of the audience helping the hearers remember the lesson.
After services we gave the congregation an 8×10 photo of the congregation that we had taken last year for them to hang in the church building. We gave kola to Daniel Niligrini, one of Timothy’s older brothers, to give to the chief since he wasn’t around. Before we leave this village Timothy always goes over and greets his father and mother. Daniel and Timothy along with Simon, their younger brother have the same mother. Timothy’s father is a polygamist.
On our way back to Kulkpeni we picked up five females carrying heavy head pan loads of grain, charcoal, etc on the dirt road to the Sambu market. They were happy to be able to hitch a ride.
This afternoon Kandie worked with Iddrisu on the books for next month. I went out later and trimmed some tree limbs that might cause a problem for the new poly tank. It was very hot again today. The high was only 115oF but the heat index was 136 degrees.
Before bible study tonight we were on our way to Kulkpeni and noticed Bro. Divine riding a bicycle going our direction so I stopped and picked him up. At Timothy’s house we loaded the empty five gallon jeri cans into the pickup. We then went over to the church property and with some of the brothers help we loaded the 4×4 water container into the pickup to bring back to the compound.
We are having some storms around us but we haven’t gotten any rain as of now. It would be great just to have it cool down for a while.
Hope you have a great Lord’s Day and may God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
