We did not get to send the Yendi Notes last night because the hotel’s wi-fi was not running. Hopefully, they have gotten the problem solved. We will send both last night and tonight’s Notes, if it is up and running.
Before we went to bed last night my brother, Paul, called to let us know that he got his flight rebooked. Now, he is arriving in Accra at 7:00 Thursday morning. We decided that we would just stay in Accra and wait for him to arrive. It would cost more for us to fly back to Tamale than it will to stay in the hotel.
Since we have extra time in Accra, we hired a taxi this morning to drive us around by the hour. Our first stop was the domestic airport so we could rebook our flights to Tamale. We were happy they had seats available on the Thursday noon flight. Of course, they charged us an upcharge for making the change.
Then we went to the Toyota showroom to talk to them about a new van. Well, we came away disappointed. They have stopped making the regular 15 passenger van and are now only making and selling the commercial van. The commercial van is about 6 feet longer than the van we are presently driving and it is extra tall; it is actually a commercial van. With the size and the extra height, it will get terrible mileage and it is doubtful that it will even fit in the garage at the mission house. Now, we are not sure what we are going to do; there is a Honda dealership in Accra; we are going to check and see if they have a service branch in or near Tamale.
The next thing on our list was to try to find English Bibles. We checked several of the Bible houses but they did not have what we were looking for. They had some really expensive Bibles but they were way out of our price range. We finally went to Jamestown, an old section of Accra. They did not have any but they were able to call a sister store and we were able to find 50 Bibles. The Bibles were not the best quality but they are much better than what we have now which is nothing. We were excited that we found the Bibles. We will take them with us on the airplane when we fly back to Tamale.
There seems to be a shortage of English Bibles; maybe next time we will be able to get them in Tamale.
We then went to the cultural center and did some shopping. I only bought a couple things because it has not been long since we were there and they did not have anything much that caught my eye.
We planned on going to our favorite Lebanese restaurant for supper but by the time we got back to the hotel it was past 5:00 and we did not want to risk being caught walking around Accra after dark trying to catch a taxi so we opted to walk down to a little fast-food restaurant near the hotel and get something to bring back to the hotel. We wanted the grilled chicken but they only had one serving left so we got some chicken nuggets; Steve wanted the fried rice and I wanted a rice bowl. They were out of the rice bowls so we ordered pizza to go with the chicken. Rather a strange combination but we were hungry and the food was pretty good!
