The rain started around 5:30 this morning and it never let up until 2pm. It is the rainy season but I think we are getting more rain than usual. The month of September is when we usually get the majority of our heavy rains so it appears to be coming earlier this year. With that said we were scheduled to visit the congregation at Duni which is located south of Yendi. When we scheduled the visit Timothy Niligrini said he would be at the house at 9:30. At 9:15 the rain was continuing to be heavy so I called Timothy to tell him we would come to Kulkpeni and pick him up so he wouldn’t get drenched riding his motorcycle. He said he would telephone Brother Francis at Duni to know if it was raining there and see what the Church’s plan was. Timothy called back to say that Francis said there were only two people in the church building so we should wait to see if the rain subsided. You might say to yourself, why not go on to the village? Well, have you ever been in a building with a tin roof and no ceiling to muffle the noise during a heavy rain? You can’t even hear the person beside you much less someone 20 feet from you. These people have no means of travel or umbrellas or raincoats to get to the building. At 10:15 Timothy telephoned saying Francis wanted to reschedule our visit later in September because no one was coming to the building and it was still raining heavily.
Kandie and Iddrisu mixed up some white and red emulsion paint (like whitewash) which made a nice light pink paint for Iddrisu to start painting the two round house interiors since the chinking is now finished.
This afternoon was spent working with the receipts. Kandie was reading the receipts while I was using the calculator to add everything up. It is a difficult job keeping up with the receipts for over here and our stateside finances. Kandie had Skeeter in the room so he could play with his toys. He enjoyed cracking open and eating the boiled unshelled groundnuts (peanuts) that I had bought the other day.
I wanted to mention that the church leaders this past Friday were pleased to hear me tell them about all of the supporters and church members back in the states who sent their greetings. We were lucky the rain held off that day or we would have been in the same situation we found ourselves today not being able to hear yourself think.
We were saddened to hear today that a dear friend of ours and supporter of this work passed on from this life after a long health battle. His name was Cliff. Our sympathy is extended to his wife and family in their loss. We look forward to meeting him again one day when the Lord calls all of His children home to eternity.
Thank you for your continued support of the work. May God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
