My brother Paul left this morning at 6:00. I got up early enough to make Red, the driver, an egg sandwich. I also sent him 2 pieces of fried chicken and a couple sugared Cokes. Paul said that he did not want anything for breakfast; he is really not a breakfast person. Paul drinks Coke Zero so I am sure that Red appreciated the sugared Cokes.

It started raining heavily around 9:30 but workers came to work before the rain started. It rained until about 1:00 this afternoon. I did not realize that it was going to rain today so I washed a couple loads of clothes and the bedding! We have clothes, sheets and towels hanging all over the living and dining rooms. All the ceiling fans are on but when the humidity is 100% it is difficult for anything to dry! Maybe in the morning some of the clothes will be dry.

Around 11:00 a.m. Paul called. When I asked them where they were he said, “Sitting on the side of the road!” The truck was not broken down; it had a flat tire. Paul said the whole side of the tire blew out! Not a good thing but at least Red did not lose control of the truck! It does not usually take Red long to change a tire because he has done it so many times that he is a “pro”!

When they were about three-quarters of the way to Accra Paul called again and said that the first town they stopped at did not have any tires that would fit the truck. At the next town they found one and had the mechanic put the new tire on the rim and they were back on the road again.

Around 6:00 p.m. Paul called again to let us know they had gotten into Accra but the traffic was so bad that they decided to go to the Chinese restaurant and get supper before they tried to make their way over to the hotel /apartment. They hope that the traffic will have died down by the time they finish eating.

Meri and Amama cleaned the apartment this morning in preparation for our daughter and grandsons that will be arriving on Sunday morning!

This afternoon after it stopped raining, Steve, Zorash and I went to get the Ghana Card number and company name of the lady that we bought a boat load of baby formula from. We have to pay Withholding Tax on the formula. The lady was very sweet and understood why we needed her information. It is actually good for her business if we file the WHT because at the end of the year the tax is credited back to her account.

Thank you for the prayers for safe travels for Paul and Red.

The Monkeyshines

The rain was too much again today! Mom came to my condo early this morning while it was raining heavily. She came in with an umbrella of all things! I could not like that! I did not feel comfortable getting under the umbrella. At one point she put the umbrella on the ground and I thought it was my new play toy! I jumped all over the umbrella; it was covered with muddy monkey paw prints! She took it away from me and I jumped on her shoulder and nipped her on her neck! That was a mistake because she immediately left the condo! I was very upset because it was still raining heavily and I was left there to sit in the rain all by myself! I tried to talk to her but she just kept walking. A few minutes later she came back out minus the umbrella and it did not take 2 seconds for me to jump in her lap!

We spent the morning in the bedroom. I helped Mom with the receipts. She said I was more of a hindrance than a help! I have 2 baskets of toys and I dumped everything out of the baskets and started playing with the scraps of paper that were being thrown away!

I spent part of the afternoon playing on the front veranda; it was still raining but I only got wet when I jumped off the veranda!

There were no strange people in the compound today; and only a few mothers came to the Child Center.

Maybe the sun will come out tomorrow!

Love, Skeeter
