Divine was here this morning before we were fully awake! He came to pick up the money for the churches and also the rest of the money to get his motorcycle driver’s license. He said that he was ready for the test. No more pigs have died which is a good thing!
The other day when we took the bookcase to Abdulai Fusheni’s house he was so pleased with the gift that he asked for Steve’s phone number. Well, Abdulai cannot speak much English and Steve cannot speak much Dagbani so we knew that it would be no use giving him Steve’s phone number so we gave him Mr. Iddrisu’s instead. At least they can understand each other. Abdulai said, “I need the number so I can call the next time I need to suck. You are my mother and when I need something I will call you!” This was a rather strange way of giving a very sincere complement. Once again we are struck by the difference in our cultures.
We finally got the corn and soybeans roasted for the weaning mix! What with all the sickness and us going back and forth to Tamale we have had to wait a while to get it roasted. When Mr. Iddrisu got to work this morning he said that he would be gone for a couple hours because he had to go to a PTA meeting at the school. We did not let that hinder us because we had already made the fires and were ready to cook when the ladies came to work. We ran out of weaning mix a couple days ago and had to buy some prepared from the market which we don’t like to do because it is not always fresh. This afternoon we took it to Zorash’s grinding mill and ground. It is sitting in the front room cooling. We will begin to bag some tomorrow.
Steve and Nazo went to town this afternoon while I was at the grinding mill to pick up the lids the metal worker was making for us. The round one that goes on the garbage pit is very nice. Later this afternoon Steve and I went back to town to pick up the church benches. We wanted to get 10 but he only had 5 put together. We are supposed to go back tomorrow and get the others.
The electricity has been off at the Child Center for the past 2 days. The Child Center electricity is on a different leg than the main house. Yesterday Nazo’s house was also without electricity but his came on last night so we have no idea what is wrong with the Child Center’s. Steve will have to call the electrician tomorrow and see if he can run down the problem. Earlier this year there was a problem with the meter box. Without electricity we have no security lights on the back part of the property.
We appreciate all your help. Keep us in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
