We are back at the mission house!! It was so nice to see Skeeter welcoming us home from our trip to Mole (game reserve). We have been on the road for a few days and I am ready for a shower and a good night’s rest.

I can say for certain that this trip was hands down the best trip to Mole I have been on! The way mom schedules the trips enables us to go on 2 safari rides. We get there and go on the afternoon ride, eat supper and then off to bed we go. Then in the morning we wake up early and are ready for the morning ride that starts at 7. Both of our trips this time were so pleasant. I have never been to Yendi in the rainy season. It is so beautiful here when it doesn’t look like a dessert. There was lots of water at the watering holes. Everything was lush and green. The grass was so tall! I would say it was at least 5.5 feet tall. In fact, it was so tall at one point the guide jumped down and grabbed his gun and off through the tall grass he went. He was following the elephant tracks. I let everyone know that if he happened to find an elephant, I would not be joining them. I love to see elephants but not at the expense of my life or better yet my leg! Our guide tried his best to find an elephant for us to see on the evening trip but with no luck. It had rained so he said elephants are hard to find after a rain and he didn’t want to take us. Of course, Goosie was able to persuade him and told him we didn’t care if we saw one or not. He said, “ok”, but let her know it would only be a 1-hour tour because the time was up for the afternoon safari. We were excited she was able to get us in.

While driving around looking at the safari and animals I could hear Goosie singing something that was vagally familiar to me. It was part of the Gilligan’s Island theme song. Because we were on a 2-hour tour…get it She couldn’t remember all the lyrics so dad chimed in trying to help. By the time we got finished they had remembered a good bit. As soon as we got back to the hotel Wi-Fi, I pulled up the song and read out the lyrics. Dad was so funny. He was singing it with great gusto! Fun times!

Back in the van we went…again. Did I mention I get car sick?? I also get plane sick. One of the perks is I always get to ride up front with Dad. As we drive, we have been solving all the world’s problems. We also get to point out all the things that are wrong with Ghana’s roads. The number one problem is the children in the roads! I don’t think I mentioned on the way up to see the crocodile we hit a dog. Poor thing. He was in the middle of the road and was looking like he was turning the other way and as we got closer, going at full steam, he turned back and walked right into the front of the car. He is a goner. I don’t think he could have survived that. Dad said that was only his second dog to hit while being in Ghana. He loves his vehicles and tries his best to take care of them; here and in the US. As soon as we got home today, we were instructed to stay in the car so Goosie could try to get Skeeter out of his cage before he saw us and there was too much racket to distract him. As I sat in the front seat, I kept getting warmer and warmer. I could hear dad doing something at the front of the bumper. Skeeter wouldn’t get out of his cage so we got out. Much to my surprise dad already had out his blow dryer and was trying to heat up the bumper so he could pull out the dent the dog left. I was starting to cook inside. I just laughed to myself because he has always been that way with his vehicles. Tries his best to keep them in pristine shape. He also got the vacuum out and cleaned the car so it will be ready for our next big adventure!

Here is a picture of our lovely crew getting ready for the 2-hour tour. I also wanted to include a picture of Skeeter for those of you who are curious as to what my little brother looks like. He is a little hairier than I am but I think you will be able to see some resemblance.
