The month of October brings change to the northern part of Ghana. The rains usually taper off in October but in our case this year they abruptly stopped around the 15th.  This is the month that the farmers start harvesting the corn and groundnuts (peanuts) and preparing for the dry season that will be with us until March or April.

One of the first things thrown at us this month was the unexpected slaughtering of the five pigs we had bought from Brother Divine for use at the seminar in November.  Several of the smaller pigs died and we were afraid they would all die so we decided to kill them and put the meat in the freezer.  Kandie and I loaded up everything we would need to clean the pigs and Tichak, one of our night watchmen and a fellow Christian, and drove to Kpamang, the home of the pigs.  The freezer had not been used since Kandie’s parents were alive.  We tested the freezer by freezing bags of water.  We could not afford to lose the pigs.  It takes a lot of food to feed all the people that attend the seminar.  Last year we bought 800lbs of native rice and five hundred loaves of bread.

During the month we visited the village churches of Kulkpanga, Mepeasam, Borido, Kpanjamba, Kakpande, Yawondo, Kulkpeni and Jegrido. During our visit at Kakpande we had some excitement.  In between the preaching and the Lord’s Supper a village man came and asked if we could take his wife to the closest clinic because she was having a difficult labor.  Fortunately the woman delivered a fine baby boy and we did not have to transport her to the clinic.

After worship service at Yawondo we met with Emmanuel, one of the evangelists, his family, and the chief.  Emmanuel is showing signs of Dementia which is causing some difficulty with the family and his finances.  Emmanuel’s first wife died some years ago and he married a younger woman; they have several children.  It is important that the children are not hungry.   We worked out a solution that we pray will help his family.

The church leader/evangelist class was held on the 26th and 27th.  Timothy continued to teach his series of lessons on Friday morning.   I used my class time to fill in the schedule for the men who wanted to take part in the seminar.  We passed out the seminar invitation letters.  The men will carry the invitations to their home congregation and to the other congregations that did not have a church leader present for the class.  The men were very happy when I brought out the nice used shirts and tie sets that have been donated.  We like to give them out the month before the seminar so the men will have something nice to wear to the seminar.  I also decided give each man present at class a new bicycle tire and tube.  The men were happy campers.   After class was over we gave the remaining five congregations their bag of used clothing that didn’t get them at the September class.

The men reported that sixteen people were added to the Lord’s Church during the month and one was restored. There were twenty congregations visited by the evangelists during October. Thirty-two men attended the monthly class.

We want to ask you to remember the seminar in your prayers. The dates for the seminar are November 30th – December 2nd.  This year we are happy that two men from West Hobbs Street Church of Christ, will be our speakers; they are Steve Carr and John Colgan.  Please keep these men in your prayers as they fly over to Ghana for the first time.  Having these men come over for the seminar helps to encourage the brethren who are standing for the truth.  We are grateful for the Elders at West Hobbs for sending these men our way.  Thanks go out to the donors that provide the financial backing for the seminar which is a much looked forward event.  John and Steve will be flying back to the States with us on December 5th and arriving on December 6th in Huntsville.

Please accept our thanks for all your prayers and support you give on our behalf.  We certainly need them.  Satan is alive and well and we need the Lord’s help all the time.  The Ghanaian brethren appreciate your willingness to help them.

In His service,

Stephen and Kandie Taylor

P.S.  Please keep Jimmy Stroud in your prayers as he recuperates from knee surgery in October
